Welcome

I am a Consultant Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgeon at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.I was appointed as consultant in March 2011 after completing HPB and Liver/Kidney Transplant training in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.

I have a special interest in laparoscopic liver, pancreatic, gallbladder, bile duct, kidney, adrenal gland and inguinal hernia surgery.

I performed the first laparoscopic major liver resection (hemi-hepatectomy) at Derriford Hospital in August 2012. So far, I have performed nearly 200 liver resections and more than 150 pancreatic resections since March 2011. Half of liver operations were performed laparoscopically with minimum morbidity and mortality.

I am actively involved in several research projects, training of undergraduate and postgraduate students, and education. I am local principal investigator for ORANGE TRIAL comparing open vs. laparoscopic hemi-hepatectomy. I am the course director for Hands on Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy course, Core Laparoscopic Skills course, and Essential surgical skills course for medical students. I am  a national faculty member of Laparoscopic Biliary Ultrasound and Bile duct Exploration course.

I am also an MRCS examiner, ATLS instructor, and Royal College Surgical Tutor.
